ALBANY -- By nearly a 10 to 1 margin, students at the University at Albany said Wednesday they would be willing to pay a higher mandatory athletic fee to help the school move to Division I athletics.
The vote totals, released late Wednesday night by the Student Association, showed 1,437 in favor of the increased fees and just 156 opposed. Association President Michael J. Castrilli said the 1,593 students who voted set a record turnout for a referendum on campus and represented about 15 percent of total number of undergraduates attending the Albany campus.
